Menopause Laid Bare

A Love Letter

A woman with a serious expression holds a rose, clenching its stem in her fist, against a textured background.

Hello Lovely Soul,

Valentine’s Day is often wrapped up in roses, chocolates, and romance, but today, I want to talk about a different kind of love—the love we give ourselves when we choose to heal.

Because something happens in midlife, doesn’t it? As our hormones shift, it’s as if a veil is lifted, and we start seeing things more clearly—not just in ourselves, but in the generations of women who came before us. Their struggles, their silence, their resilience… all of it. And sometimes, we realize we’re carrying more of their stories than we ever knew.

I was speaking with a client recently—let’s call her Sarah who reminded me deeply of my own generational patterns. She came to me feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and deeply exhausted, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on why. Life looked good on the surface—she had a successful career, a family she adored—but inside, she felt like she was drowning.

As we talked, she shared memories of her mother, always busy, always giving, always putting herself last. And then her grandmother—strong, but quiet, burdened by unspoken worries. And suddenly, Sarah saw it: she was living out their patterns, carrying their stress in her body, their fears in her mind.

Menopause had cracked her open, not just physically, but emotionally. But here’s the beautiful part—once she saw it, she could begin to change it. And she did. She learned to listen to her own needs, to set boundaries without guilt, to nurture herself in ways the women before her never could. And in doing so, she started healing—not just for herself, but for the generations that would come after her.

So if you’re feeling a little tender today, know this: you are not broken. You are awakening. And that is a gift.

Sending you love,

Jacquie
